bringing x over changes its sign frm negative to positive. Bringing 4 over changes it frm positive to negative. Ull get 18-4=x, which cn easily be rewritten as x=18-4. Solving it then gives you x=14. same for 2nd question.......
b = 4 do the arithmetic
As you can see from the answers, there's more than one right way to do this. Have a go at understanding each of the answers; it will help.

Bring all numbers to one side & the alphabets to the other. So for the 1st equation, bringing x over changes its sign frm negative to positive. Bringing 4 over changes it frm positive to negative. U'll get 18-4=x, which cn easily be rewritten as x=18-4. Solving it then gives you x=14. same for 2nd question. Bring b over to the left & 11 to the right & tat gives u b=15-11. solving it then gives b=4.

if u wanna show him then u can make him think this way that the eqaulity sign always signifies that watever is the on the laeft hand side of an eqaution the same shud b there on the right hand side..
here the left hand side (LHS) needs some number to equalise with the right hand side .. so that number is 14 ;) hope ur son gets it :)

18 - x = 4
Add x to both sides
18 - x + x = 4 + x
18 + 0x = 4 + x
Since 0 multiplied by anything will result in 0, we can now write the problem like this:
18 = 4 + x
Subtract 4 from each side
18 - 4 = 4 + x - 4
14 = x
11 = 15 - b
Add b to both sides
11 + b = 15 - b + b
11 + b = 15 + 0b
11 + b = 15
Subtract 11 from both sides
11 + b - 11 = 15 - 11
b = 4

You just want to rearrange the equations so that the letter is on the left with all numbers on the right.
18 - x = 4
x = 18 - 4 = 14
11 = 15 - b
b = 15 -11 = 4
