"x" is used to represent a number not yet known. The equation you asked means you have to find the value of "x" in the given example. So 2 multiplied by 1/2= 1. So if "x" = 1/2 then 2x=1.

Hey. :) You need to try get the x to one side by itself.

Firstly subtract 2 from both sides:
2x + 2 = 3 (-2)
2x = 1

Next to issolate the x by itself divide both sides by 2:
2x = 1 (/2)
x = 1/2 or 0.5
