If you're doing stuff on a calculator, it's always nice to take the natural log of both sides to get variable exponents down from their perch!

ln (3^(1-x)) = ln (5^x)

Okay, so now I'm going to use the log property ln a^b = b * ln a on both sides:

(1-x) * ln 3 = x * ln 5

Let's expand the right side:
ln 3 - x * ln 3 = x * ln 5

Move the variables to one side....I pick the right side:
ln 3 = x ln 3 + x ln 5

From there, you're almost done. Factor the right side, keeping in mind that ln 3 and ln 5 are just numbers/coefficients of x. Then, divide to isolate x.
