I was wondering, cause I read somewhere that the screens used on microwave doors are used to shield military display screens, and the microwave itself has to be surrounded by a grounded metal shell. So let say I had advance warning of an EMP attack, will putting my stuff in the microwave protect them?

The answer "to some degee" is the best. There are a number of factors associated with an EMP pulse. The first is proximity. If it's a high altitude pulse, then there's a chance. The other factors depend on the type of circuit and whether it on or off during the event. A further problem is the pulse has a strong magnetic component which many metals do not attenuate well. Chances are however that there won't be much left to listen to or watch since most commercial networks are not protected.

To some degree, but if the EMP was strong enough it could penetrate even the microwave shield. A solid metal box with thick walls would be better (particularly if the box was made of copper). But your refrigerator, a metal bread-box, etc. would probably work as well or better than the microwave.

Kevin, I wouldn't worry about my electronic devices in an EMP attack. I'd be worried about myself. An EMP attack that would take out your electronic devices would probably kill you.
