the answer came out to be 2.5 x 10^5
i need to understand how to arrive to that answer.
thank you in advance

Look at the identities (equalities) for the units.
1 m = 10 dm where dm stands for decimeter.
1 m = 1 x 10^6 um where um stands for micrometer.
Use these two identities to construct conversion factors. Let's do them one at a time.
no. m = 2.5 dm(1 m)/(10 dm) = 0.25 m
no. um = 0.25 m(1 x 10^6 um)/(1 m) = 2.5 x 10^5 um
It is just that easy but you need to know the relationships of the various metric units to find these answers.

1 m = 10 dm
1 m = 10^6 micrometers
2.5 dm x (1 m / 10 dm) x (10^6 micrometer / 1 m) = 2.5 x 10^5 micrometers
1 m = 10^6 micrometers
2.5 dm x (1 m / 10 dm) x (10^6 micrometer / 1 m) = 2.5 x 10^5 micrometers
