Please give me the most simple ways to answer problems for the topics above.

metric conversions:
if you draw out a chart of all the units going from left to right it makes it easier to count so first on the left side is k (kilo), then h (hecto), da (deca), the base unit (grams, meters, liters), d (deci), c (centi), and finally m (milli).
using this chart you can determine how many places to move the decimal place and in what direction by counting the amount of spaces between each unit to the next.
for example lets convert 35mL to dL.. you start off on the far right side of the chart at m (milli) and count two to the left to d (deci).. that means you move the decimal point two to the left and get the answer of 0.35dL
another example changing 950km into cm.. you start at k (kilo) and move 5 to the right, that means your decimal place moves 5 to the right.. the answer would then be 95000000cm.
note: the decimal is always at the end of a whole number (for the number 45 for example the decimal point would be after the 5)

scientific notation:
to convert a number into scientific notation from standard form you have to move the decimal point so that there is only on digit to the left of the decimal place. you then count how many spaces you moved and multiply the number by 10 to the number of places. if it moved right the exponent becomes a negative...
for an example. convert 1,500,000 into scientific notation.. moving the decimal so that there is only one digit to the left of the decimal place the number becomes 1.5 .. since i am moving the decimal 6 places to the left the exponent on the 10 becomes positive 6 so the full answer is 1.5x10^6..
second example: convert 0.005 into scientific notation.. i have to move the decimal 3 places to the right so the number becomes 5.0 to account for the movement of the decimal i have to multiply it by 10 to the power of -3.. remember the number is negative because we moved the decimal to the right this time.. the final answer is 5.0x10^-3.
