Help me calculate my average!

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-10-02] [Hit: ]
Assuming equal difficulty & equal success in guesses, most people rarely exceed a 20% increase on each try. So under this assumption we can count on your second score being about a 72%. However, when factoring in the increased difficulty of a final vs a midterm, we will plateau your success at 75% for the final.......
if my first midterm is 30% of my grade and I made a 60, and then my second midterm is worth 30% and I plan to make a 100, and then my final exam is worth 40% and I will most definitley make a 100. What will my grade be? sorry, I'm really bad at math!

-
30%*60=18
30%*100=30
40%*100=40

Under the current assumptions your grade would be an 88%, which in most grading systems in a B+

However, based upon your first score you may want to assume a more modest grade goal. Assuming equal difficulty & equal success in guesses, most people rarely exceed a 20% increase on each try. So under this assumption we can count on your second score being about a 72%. However, when factoring in the increased difficulty of a final vs a midterm, we will plateau your success at 75% for the final.

Thus:
30%*60=18
30%*72= 22 (approx)
40%75= 30

So your reasonable final score goal would be more attune with a score of 70, which is typically viewed as a C-, which is a good improvement from the D- you have at the moment.

Sorry, love, just calling it as it is

Also, you are aware that your cell phone & computer both have calculators, which could have solved this problem in less time than it took to type this out.

Average = (0.30 x 60) + (0.30 x 100) + (0.40 x 100) = 88

-
You'd have an 88% if you made 100's on the midterm and final.
