The subducting plate will slide beneath another plate and into the earth's mantle where it will melt, the molten rock then rises to the surface where it forms a chain of volcanoes

a divergent zone, which forms normal faults will also produce volcanoes, the crust moves apart, and magma from the interior will rise to the surface to fill the void, forming many volcanoes in the process
