Potassium chlorate, or potassium perchlorate?

Von, don't depend upon memorization or tables for this type of question.

What's the oxidation state of Cl in the chlorate anion? Using the periodic table, it's important you deduce that it's +5.

What's the oxidation state of Cl in the perchlorate anion? You'll find that it's +7.

Now, you have two oxidizers, Cl(5+) and Cl(7+). Keep in mind that an oxidizer is something that readily accepts electrons.

Which would you expect to more readily accept electrons? Cl(5+) or Cl(7+)? Which one is more positive? Would you expect the most positive to be most receptive toward receiving electrons? What does this mean in terms of oxidation strength?
