how do you do ionic bonds with NaOH. do you have to do the covalent bond first with OH. oxygen shares it's bonds with hydrogen making it now 7 electrons and hydrogen valency shell is now full. so now na will give up it's electron to oxygen to give it a valency of 8. is this how it goes? and what happens when you add h20 then where will the electrons go since there valency is already filled?

Sometimes electrons don't obey the octet rule. The first part you put is right. The second part doesn't follow the octet rule thoigh
