this is the bicarbonate buffer system, D is right too,3 - B, insulin breaks down glucose in the blood, look up glycolysis because the top guy is saying A, but I am about 90% sure that its glucagon,......
1) which of the following develops the greatest pressure on the blood in the mammalian aorta?
A) Systole of the left atrium
B) diastole of the right ventricle
C) systole of the left ventricle
D) diastole of the right atrium
E) diastole of the left atrium

2) Carbon Dioxide levels in the blood and fluid affect its pH. This enables the organism to sense a disturbance in gas levels as
A) the brain directly measures and monitors CO2 and causes breathing chances
B) the medulla monitors pH and uses this to measure control breathing
C) the brain alters the pH of the fluid to force the animal to retain more or less CO2
D) stretch receptors in the lungs cause the medulla to speed up or slow breathing
E) the medulla is able to control the concentration of bicarbonate ions in blood.

3) Hypoglycemia or low levels of glucose in the blood of a heathy human is corrected by
A) increase in secretion of insulin
B) increase in secretion of glucagon
C) increase in secretion of both insulin and glucagon
D) decrease in the secretion of both insulin and glucagon
E) increase in the secretion of thyroid hormones

I know a "maybe" answer isnt great, but I took basic bio like 4 or 5 years ago :|

but for 1 I think it's C, the left ventricle has the largest mass because it pushes out all of the blood to the rest of the body

2 - C, this is the bicarbonate buffer system, D is right too, but it isn't activated by changes in pH

3 - B, insulin breaks down glucose in the blood, so you should know that glucagon does the opposite :)

look up glycolysis because the top guy is saying A, but I am about 90% sure that it's glucagon, because glucagon supports gluconeogenesis

1C) - its the contraction of the left VENTRICLE which causes pressure in blood.

2A) - this one is the only one that makes sense. The brain doesnt "control" the bicarbonate buffer system.

3C) - This is VERY tricky. At first the answer is B, as glucagon stimulates liver cells to convert glycogen into glucose.
HOWEVER in a "healthy" human insulin is ALSO secreted to control the glucose that is now released. In people who are diabetic, they can release glucagon no problem... its insulin they have a problem with.

E
C
