Chemistry is just not my thing, and at the moment I'm so confused. For this problem on my homework I'm supposed to calculate the number of electrons (it's uncharged), neutrons and protons for each of these elements using the given atomic symbol. Even a few answers would be helpful because I keep getting the neutrons to be HUGE numbers!
a. 244 Pu (244=a, 94=z, Pu=x)
94
b. 241 Am
95
c. 227 Ac
89
d. 133 Cs
55
e. 193 Ir
77
f. 56 Mn
25
Any helpful comments?

the number of protons is ALWAYS the same for each element.
that is the atomic number.
the number of electrons can vary.
if more than the number of protons, then the atom is negatively charged. if less than the number of protons, then the atom is positively charged. if equal, the atom has a neutral charge.
the number of neutrons can also vary.
each variation in the # of neutrons is a different isotope of the same element. when you add the protons and neutrons, you get the mass number. you do NOT count electrons as part of the mass number
for instance,
1 proton, 1 electron is a hydrogen atom (the protium isotope) with a neutral charge. mass# is 1
1 proton, 1 electron, and 1 neutron is a hydrogen atom (the deuterium isotope) with a neutral charge. mass# is 2
1 proton, 1 electron, and 2 neutrons is a hydrogen atom (the tritium isotope) with a neutral charge. mass# is 3

protons = electrons = atomic number
neutrons = atomic mass - atomic number
make it a good day
