Swine flu of 2009 was particularly bad as it was an unusual flu.
Flu NORMALLY affect either school age kids or the elderly...
The Swine flu(H1N1) was different. It attacked adults from late teen years to middle age. It attacked them hard.
The H1N1 virus was also different in that it could survive on paper or magazines for several hours and thus be spread by contact reading a magazine some infected individual had read earlier in the day. This was unusual. The normal flu dies in minutes after a paper has been put down.
The next year the H1N1 evolved(or mutated) to the H1N2 which was different but the same bug. And it evolved (or mutated) again to the H1N3 the following year. The flu shot is a cocktail of different flu vaccines combined in one shot.
Meanwhile the flu virus has evolved again into something else for the next season.

Paul say: It hasn't stopped. It will continue as long as living creatures exist on Earth. And the humans of today are biologically different from those of 10,000 years ago, in a number of ways. Minor ways of course since 10,000 years is an extremely short time in evolutionary terms.

Evolution is simply a slight deviation in the normal DNA that happens to give a benefit to the organism. Either by making it easier to survive long enough to breed, or making it that much more attractive to the opposite sex.
