It's interesting that you use the word devolving: making the assumpttion that evolution is somehow placed on a weighted scale and. That each mutation somehow gives the "animal" an advantage...genetics doesn't work under the Lamarkian principle media potrays it under! It's much more chaotic and yet random at the same time and it doesn't always confer a 'good' quality to it's subject.

Actually, a surplus of thick people makes it easier for the intelligentsia to flourish. The thicks do most of the work and the thinkers do most of the thinking. This can be a problem in a democracy because many of the thicks will vote. The USA was founded as a Republic and initially only (male) property owners could vote.

If we are we'll end up on an 'evolutionary plateau'..something like certain species of benthic clams which haven't changed in abt 300m years..or we'll become extinct as we fail to adapt to changes in environment etc (incl new diseases, extra-terrestrial impacts etc)..or although 'thikpeeps' have gr8r fecundity..it'll be balanced out by their increased chances of mortality due to poor health habits or doing 'jackass' antics!
