IMPORTANT: Why bacteria for protein manufacturing, why not just enzymes

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-01-09] [Hit: ]
Many things depend on the organelles in your body, one being protein production.......
Why cant we get the enzymes and have them synthesise the protein directly? so we dont have to filter out all the unnessecary biomaterial,

Thanks

All the enzymes does is to alter proteins. You need DNA -> RNA -> Amino acid chain, which is then processed by enzymes to form the functional proteins. While it is possible in theory to artificially manufacture amino acid chains, then add the necessary enzymes to form the functional protein, it is unfeasible currently as there is little control in the enzyme action and the process would be extremely complicated as well as potentially labour-intensive. As of now, bacteria is still a more viable option, especially for commercial protein manufacturing like for insulin.

Remember to form proteins, we need DNA. Bacteria replicate quickly and efficiently, so they can use it to produce the proteins, using plasmids, which house DNA.

We need mRNA to deliver the message to the ribosomes to form a protein; this is formed through transcription involving DNA!

Furthermore, we need tRNA and rRNA along with many other factors etc. Many things depend on the organelles in your body, one being protein production.
