What are the advantages of being able to modify the mRNA to produce different proteins?

Synthesizing new mRNA is expensive for the cell. Also, if each protein had a specific gene, it would mean more DNA for the cell to synthesize and maintain, which is also expensive. Modifying a single mRNA to produce multiple proteins is a cost-cutting measure for the cell.
