Would like to know in a short, descriptive answer that I can understand (:

-
Antagonistic muscles are those that move a joint in the opposite direction from other muscles which are sometimes called agonist muscles. More specifically these are described as extensor muscles which open a joint and flexor muscles that close the joint. For example, the triceps on the back of the upper arm open the elbow joint while the biceps close the elbow joint.
