There are thousands of perceptions, from good luck to a horror threat to existence. Widespread is the wish on a shooting star, it comes to pass.
All I see is a small rock.
People live in urban places with light pollution they are rarely seen. well away from that, you can see them at least every few minutes and dozens per minute during meteor showers.

Jeffrey K say: A shooting star is a meteor burning in the atmosphere. Most are the size of a grain of sand. There are fairly common but you must have a very dark clear sky to see them. So I would say YES, it is good luck. You are having good weather and no air pollution and away from big city lights and enjoying viewing the stars and planets.

Sharon say: you can go to the movies or watch TV and see Clint Eastwood, Sly Stallone, Bruce Willis. This is the only kind of "shooting star" that exists. If you mean you saw a METEOR, that's nice, but I doubt dinosaurs would regard it as good luck!
