MARK say: There could be ways in which it may be dangerous to them. perhaps our atmosphere would be unsuitable. However, if a race had the technology to travel to Earth I am sure they would not be worried about the weapons we have.

As such, everyone decides to stay away and leave them to it. They could land and easily defend themselves,, but the inhabitants obviously prefer the outside world didnt try.

Adam D say: Too dangerous? If they're advanced enough to get here, they are far more dangerous than us. A species advanced enough to travel here really only has one logical reason to do so - ideological conversion. Our extermination might be an option as well.
We have nothing of value here for a race with that level of technology. Everything that can be acquired here can be obtained more easily in space. Slave labor is inefficient compared to robots with advanced systems, so they don't need people. Living space isn't a probable reason, it is highly unlikely that a species evolving on one world would have the ability to live on another without artificial habitats. If they can terraform, step one would be to drop a big asteroid to sterilize the surface before they begin - not landing at all until centuries from now. That only leaves zealots - a drive to kill or convert all other sentient life to their belief system.
