I know that gravity is a theory, i'm not stupid, but say it exists: why doesn't the moon just fall towards us?

meaning the instructions of how to turn iron ore and other raw materials into a 2017 Ford Mustang. The moon doesnt fall toward us because it has inertia. This inertia is directed sideways, and the combination of the sideways inertia force and the downward gravity force add up to a approximately circular orbit around the Earth.......

Floating balloons is a completely different phenomenon.

quantumclaustrophobe say: Well, actually, the moon *is* falling towards us - all the time. But, it's moving so fast *sidewise* that it keeps missing us. That's essentially what an orbit is.

YKhan say: Do you know what the word "theory" actually means? It doesn't mean the same thing in scientific language as what it means in colloquial language. In science, a theory means something that is proven and is well understood, in other words, of course gravity exists, because it is a theory.

The Moon does fall towards us, and we fall towards the Moon. however, as we fall towards each other, there is a slight sideways movement for both bodies, that prevents these two from directly colliding with each other.

spot a say: Gravity of teh earth-moon system tries to pull it nearer and its momentum keeps trying to move it in a straignt line at a tangent to its orbit Betwecause of these two forces it moves in an ellipse around the earth

Steven say: You are a mad
-
Noémie say: Because of the moon's inertia.

D g say: Take a bucket of water tie a string to the handle and swing the bucket really fast tou will see no or little water spill

Hold the bucket still upside down all the water falls out

The key is motion if the object has the correct speed it orbits if its too much it flys by

If its not enough it eventually crashes

Morningfox say: The word "theory" means different things. When a scientist says "theory of gravity", she means "the mathematics of gravity". Just like we could have a "theory" of how to build a car, meaning the instructions of how to turn iron ore and other raw materials into a 2017 Ford Mustang.

The moon doesn't fall toward us because it has inertia. This inertia is directed sideways, and the combination of the sideways inertia force and the downward gravity force add up to a approximately circular orbit around the Earth.
