is The sky level 1 planetarium software with 10,000 object database and enhanced images a good software to teach you about astronomy and telescopes. Also does it tell you where to point your telescope?

The Sky is a very highly regarded program. It is very accurate and can be upgraded to level 2, 3 etc when you are ready.
It will not point your scope for you. As with anything worth doing, there is a learning curve. You will have to learn some astronomy to know what to ask the program, and more to know what to do with the information to get back. The program might tell you to point to 15h 22' 12" and 45d 6' 18," for instance. You will have to learn what that means and the correct way to set up you scope to go to that spot.
The place to learn these concepts and techniques is at you local amateur astronomy club. They will be happy to hear from you.
