What is the advantage of having planktonic larval forms of sessile animals

4.Baby can drift now and then later go on to settle down and found a new population on suitable substrate elsewhere.5.Since Baby is going to be settling down at a distance from Mommy, this reduces the likelihood of inbreeding, and thus reduces the likelihood of future inbreeding depression.......
Please help :)

1. Baby is not competing with Mommy for food because baby drifted away.

2. Baby is less likely to be eaten by Mommy because baby drifted away.

3. Mommy (and lots of things like her) occupies a spot on a nice solid substrate. It's probably crowded there, too crowded for Baby to settle. Good thing Baby is drifting away.

4. Baby can drift now and then later go on to settle down and found a new population on suitable substrate elsewhere.

5. Since Baby is going to be settling down at a distance from Mommy, this reduces the likelihood of inbreeding, and thus reduces the likelihood of future "inbreeding depression."
