I am hoping to purchase a telescope and being a beginner i am not sure if this telescope is good. I have read Night Watch and know a bit about telescopes but not much. So is the Orion Sky Quest XT6i good or is the XT8i better i checked the specs and it says that XT8i has a focal ratio of 5.9 while the XT6i has a focal ratio of 8.0. The book that i read is states that the preferred focal ratio is 6 or 8. I currently live in the urban area and it also states that this telescope is good for urban ares because it can ignore the light pollution well. Also is it worth it to get the intelliscope or just go for the model without it i.e. orion sky quest xt6 or Orion sky quest xt8.
Thank You.
Thank You.

I'm in a heavily light polluted area and I have both the XT8i and the Starblast 6i. While both 6" and 8" are capable instruments there is no denying the superiority of the 8", and not just because of the focal ratio. Resolution and image brightness in the 8" are superior. If you can spring for the 8" go for it. An 8" may be all the scope you will ever need without spending a lot more for a much heavier telescope that may not see as much use. And an 8" only weighs a little more than a 6"
If you were under rural skies I would say you wouldn't need the Intelliscope feature. But under city skies it is very frustrating to try to navigate otherwise with so few guide stars to star hop with. No scope can "ignore" light pollution well but with the computerized navigation it makes a BIG difference in finding what can be seen.

I'd answer here, but hardly anyone looks at the comments.

Aperture is king. Go with the XT8.

Get the 8i and don't look back.
