Can someone please explain this algebra 1 question to me

4a + 7 + 6a = -13

I have no idea how to do this question. I get through the first two steps and then I'm lost. Someone please help. Thank you!

Subtract 7 from both sides
4a + 6a = -20

Combine like terms
10a = -20

Divide by 10
a = -2
