I agree. It is simply time for humanity to start planning and working toward establishing a viable colony on another world. Earth simply can't sustain humans and their excessive growth rate, consumption, and destruction for ever. If an asteroid don't do us in, wars and ultimately poisoning the planet will. Establishing a small population of people on the Moon or Mars will not accomplish much (depending on other factors), least not on the long term. Years ago, I read an article in Scientific American on the subject of minimum population necessary for maintaining adequate genetic diversity. It said that the minimum breeding population necessary to establish an ongoing viable population of human beings, would be around 240,000 mature individuals. However, at the time everyone thought that there was something on the order of a 100,000 active genes in the human genome. It turns out to be less than 30,000. So a breeding population of around 75,000 would likely be enough to assure enough genetic diversity in order for humans to adapt and survive the long term. The point is, if a planet couldn't support 75,000 human beings over the course of many years, colonizing that planet as an alternative to Earth wouldn't make sense. Colonizing the planet with a small population of professionals for scientific research, or as a stepping stone to even larger objectives and goals would make sense. Anyway you view it, colonization on some scale needs to be done just to show that it can be done, and to promote public interest in astronomy and space travel. No matter the cost, if we don't begin the process of creating an alternative to this rock, one of these days our luck will simply run out.

Best regards

Meh, to be honest it's pointless right now, and only those who believe in the 2012 WORLD END would be wanting to go to Mars, but there are many problems.
It is extremely cold, so there would have to constantly be machines running artificial heat and we would all have to be under one dome or something like that. If disaster struck than all humans on Mars would die.
Mars' gravity is less intense then Earth's because it is not as big, therefore we would have to re-design air crafts and many more machines for the gravitational differences.

NO.

VASMIR engines are just a theory and do not actually exist.

There is nothing on Mars worith going to the trouble and expense.

-
No. We need to focus on conservation of Earth's natural resources.

-
Well, let's start by sending some explorers, first....
