Einstein has already proven that faster than light speeds are possible. Light speed is usually denoted as "c".

Many are confused about this. If an object is traveling slower than c then it can never reach or exceed c. If it is moving faster than c it can never slow to or move at less than c.
Tachyons are theoretical particles that mover faster than c, but have never been proven to exist. Indeed, it is unknown how to detect them.

You'll get a noble prize if you can prove faster than light particles exist. If tachyons don't exist, then 3.00*10^8 m/s is the cosmic speed limit.
