I was out by my chicken coop, a good 20-30 meters away from my house, and I saw a Coyote about the same distance away from me as my house. It saw me, and I ran back to my house with my dog (miniature dachsund) and quicly went inside. It didn't run after me, but rather walked in the same direction as I ran before disappearing.
I know it was kinda stupid to run with a wild animal so close by, but I was terrified (I'm only 15). If I had stayed where I was would it have attacked or approached me? Also, does it make a difference that my dog was barking the whole time?
Thank you.

Very unusual for a coyote to attack an adult human. Your dog however, is at risk..all cats and small breed dogs are. It was likely attracted to you BECAUSE you had your dog with you. They are usually more scared of you than you are of it. Running from a wild animal will kick in its instincts to chase you..bad idea. Most will run from you, but since your dog was a potential meal to it..this is why maybe it was a little braver and was checking him out. If you see one again, you can yell at it, or throw something at it to scare it away. Be sure to not let your dog roam unattended (especially at dusk or dark). You should supervise your dog while outside if you know that coyotes frequent the area. Also, don't leave anything in your yard that might attract them...this includes pet food or water left outside, trash cans that do not have locking lids etc. I come in contact with coyotes on a regular basis and have never been threatened by one. Have actually scared a few by accident.

No, Providing you're aggressive in your demeanor towards it. Been as close as less than 10 meters with a female with pups that I stumbled upon, unknowing. It was advancing toward me, in full display and I put it off me by a more aggressive display. But once it's tail went down, I backed up and got out of there. Having the dog there, could be a benefit depending on the breed. I had a Husky that wanted to kill them.
