You need to give more information. Do the bites resemble a rash, or are they well-separated? Do the bites tend to run in straight lines or are they scattered? Are the bites mainly on your nieces' extremities or also on the trunk? If on the extremities, are they bitten more on their ankles than on their legs? Do they walk in grassy areas? Do any of the bites occur during the daytime?

your description leads me to believe they are dust mite bites, if so, you should clean the beds more often, they eat dead flesh, and their bites do leave a rash. i don't know the exact size, but if they are not preticulary large, they would be dust mites.

Corey is right. I had dust mites in my house and the bites matched that description.
