I was wondering what the chances are I will get bit if Im gentle? Any special ways to move it outside without hurting it?-If she is in a web, you might do better to just leave her alone. You dont indicate where you are located, so it is difficult to say what spider this is,......
There's a spider the size of my tiny hand in my basement. Last year, there was one just like this and I told my roomie about it, only to find out she killed it. I want to move it outside, without hurting it.

If she is in a web, you might do better to just leave her alone. You don't indicate where you are located, so it is difficult to say what spider this is, but is likely a harmless house spider. Putting such spiders outside will likely kill them.
The only likelihood this spider would bite you is if you were to grab it in your hand.
If you are certain this is not a black widow or redback (depending on your location) you might just keep it around for a pet. Here's a house spider that lived behind my water cooler over 4 years. I have handled others, and the males, and they just don't seem to bite.

And one of her boyfriends:

If you 'must' put her outside, you may be able to coax her onto your hand, then put her into a cup or container and set her free outside. Most likely, if you disturb her, she will run to a 'hideout' making her difficult to catch.
If you could post a good photo of your little friend, I may be able to ID it for you and tell you a little about it.

We're talking about a pretty big spider here. If I were you I wouldn't want to mess with that with a bare hand. A spider that size could have some highly poisonous venom that could be fatal. I actually saw an inch- long spider on my porch once. I killed it with insect spray. I'm telling you the thing was so hairy! It was like a miniature Tarantulala! Anyway, use a long item like a tree branch, pencil, ruler, etc. Put it out in front of it and it may crawl on it. Then lay it down outside. If you don't want anyone to step on it, lay it on a pile of leaves or branches or on a tree's bark.
