I don't know who you think you are, but professionally trained scientists and meteorologists predict this storm to be one of the worst we have gotten in 50 years. It will most definitely be a category one by the time it reaches NJ/NY, and it will still have winds anywhere from 45-80 mph, depending where you live, and we will get anywhere from 10-15 inches of rain.
People are evacuated because this storm will FLOOD barricaded islands, like fire island, long beach island, long island, everywhere where ocean surrounds it. If you think this is all hype, then fine, but hurricanes gain strength, and there will be some damage.

Not all Hype.
There will be flooding, high winds, trees down, power out.
The storm itself shouldn't be too serious except right at the coast,
where high tide, synched with the storm surge will be serious in low spots.
The 'Hype' you sense is a symptom of the idea of 'Nanny Government".
It's no longer acceptable to just warn us and let us take our chances.
They feel it's up to them to tell us poor ignorant jerks what to do,
and once they take that responsibility, they have to be overcautious.
If I saws myself with that burden, I'd have to do the same.
