Why is there a a strip of mirror under the scale and needle of a voltmeter

Thanks in advance.-Its to improve your accuracy in reading the meter.You move your eye back and forth until the reflection of the needle is aligned with the needle.Then you are looking exactly perpendicular to the plane of the needle movement and the scale reading under the needle will be more precise.-Parallax error in reading the scale when the needle is above the scale, is eliminated by sighting the needle image to be directly under the needle.......
I found an answer online but I cannot understand it.Can someone explain it to me in simpler terms?Thanks in advance.
