if w is real valued, then (8w)^{-1} = 1/(8w)

if w is complex valued, then (8x)^{-1} = (1/(8 |w|)^2) * conj(w)

where w = a+ib, {a,b} real and conj(w) = a-ib and |w|^2 = w * conj(w)
