What are the odds of an earth ending asteroid or meteor to hit in the next 100 years

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 13-02-16] [Hit: ]
000,000 years and the last one was 11,000,000 years ago. The next one is due in about 15,000,......
The odds are so low as to be zero. Don't worry about it. Something will happen to each one of us before a meteor does significant damage to the planet. According to the nemesis theory, a mass extinction caused by a large asteroid impact happens about every 26,000,000 years and the last one was 11,000,000 years ago. The next one is due in about 15,000,000 years and the evidence to support this theory is pretty good, though not perfect. If it's true, you and I will be crude oil when the next one happens, maybe even diamonds. Live your life and enjoy. You have more to worry about from thunderstorms.

How about a 'life-on-earth'' ending meteor?
It seems that one of these may hit the earth approximately every 40 or 50 million years ( +/- 15 million). The last one was roughly 60 million years ago.
You might say that we are 'due' - - but the odds of it happening in the next 100 years is roughly similar to you winning the Powerball lottery tonight from buying 10 tickets.

The odds of a meteor strike similar to what hit Russia yesterday? Perhaps one of these somewhere in the world every year - - one over populated land - perhaps every 5 to 10 years. One hitting the ground and killing some people? Perhaps one (somewhere in the world) every 40 or 50 years.

The odds of one hitting and wiping out a small to major city sometime in the next 100 years? Extremely small - - perhaps 1 in 100. More likely 1 in 1000.

At the risk of alienating my esteemed fellow contributors, I would have to
say that the odds are, and always have been 50/50.

most of these TV shows are entertainment not factual.
I would guess that in 100 years we would have the ability to detect and deflect anything that is a "City buster"

something really really big would get our full attention

Yes, it might be extremely low, but it only has to happen one time. Hard to calculate odds on that.

extremely low
