[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-10-17] [Hit: ]
in the first one we want to place it between the 9 and 1. the decimal however is at the end after the zero. (remember 91,402,000 is the same as 91,402,......
Convert 91,402,000 and 186,282 into standard form correct to 2 significant figures, if someone can explain and answer this would be a big help, thanks

basically you want to put the decimal between the first number which is greater then 0 so starting from one.

in the first one we want to place it between the 9 and 1. the decimal however is at the end after the zero. (remember 91,402,000 is the same as 91,402,000.000000000000000000000000)

so lets look at how many places the decimal would need to go back to get between the 9 and 1.

its seven what i calcuated it to be.

so you have then 9.1 x 10^7

same applies to the second.

the answer for that is 1.8 x 10^5
