Confused about the definition of redox reactions

.thanks-of course they are redox.......
Okay I know that redox reactions means reactions where there are transfer of electrons or change in the oxidation state of an atom..but many reactions such as those that involve the formation of covalent bonds dont actually result in transfer of electrons for example compared to the reaction of Sodium and chlorine to form sodium chloride yet these reactions are still classified as redox reactions eg the combustion of methane into water and CO2 is classed as a redox reaction but there is no transfer of electrons just the formation of a covalent bond....so I mean I do I understand the concept implied in redox reactions

thanks

of course they are redox.
CH4 + O2 => CO2 +H2O
Before
C is +4
H is -1
O is 0
After
C is +4
O is -2
H is +1
O and H changes their oxidation states
