104 cm^2
Let's first see it as a two-dimensional picture without depth. The area of the "I" is 22 cm^2.
Since we have a front and a back we multiply that by 2. So now we have a total of 44 cm^2.
The top and bottom area are 10cm^2 each, if we add that we are up to 64cm^2
The black has 10 squares (2cm x 2cm) which make the depth. If we add that to we are up to 104cm^2.

To the person under me. He asked for the surface area. What you did was multiplying three lengths which gives you volum (cm^3)
The block has actually 14 pieces.
Edit: No problem ;)

These guys are both wrong...
Front surface: divided into 3 blocks - 5x2, 5x2, 2x1 = 22 cm^2
Back surface: divided into 3 blocks - 5x2, 5x2, 2x1 = 22 cm^2
Right surfaces: divided into 3 blocks - 2x2, 2x2, 2x2 = 12 cm^2
Left surface: divided into 3 blocks - 2x2, 2x2, 2x2 = 12 cm^2
Top surface: 5x2 = 10 cm^2
Bottom surface: 5x2 = 10 cm^2
....add them altogether to get 88cm^2
CHECK THAT.... I left out four 2x2 squares for a total of 104 cm^2

cut the piece into 3 and find the area
piece 1: 2*2*5=20cm^3
piece 2: 2*2*(5-2-2)=4cm^3
piece 3: 2*2*5=20cm^3
total is 44cm^2. the answer above me is wrong
edit: never mind i found the volume not surface area sry about that. also ur answer 104 is correct nice. thank for pointing out my mistake

middle:
1x2 x2
