I was looking into buying a new graphing calc and am pretty well set on the ti 89. I hear a lot of teachers dislike them though because it has "cas" and that means it can solve algebra problems on its own. That sounds really nice and convenient. Will college professors have a problem with a student using a calculator this powerful? Will they not allow me to use them on tests and whatnot?
I know this isn't necessarily a math question, but I figure this section probably has other college kids that would have a good answer
If any of you use one of these tell me if you have ever had a problem with being able to use it in classrooms or for a test or anything

Depends on the professor (and the university). My first two calculus courses, I was not allowed to use a calculator (and there were a lot of tedious calculations). I transferred schools, and had two more calculus courses along with other higher level math classes. I was allowed to use a calculator! It made things a little easier. So, it really just depends.
