I have a 61% in a class, with only two things left to do: an assignment that's worth 10% and the final exam which is worth 20%, totaling 30% of my mark not yet accounted for. My question is, what's the worst mark I can get on the assignment and exam without failing? A pass is 50% and above. Thanks!

Calculate a weighted average:
(0.7 * 61) + (0.3 * x) = final grade
The (0.7 * 61) is the 70% of your grade with 61% so far. The (0.3 * x) is the remaining 30%.
To get a minimum 50%:
(0.7 * 61) + (0.3 * x) = 50
42.7 + 0.3x = 50
0.3x = 50 - 42.7 = 7.3
x = 7.3 / 0.3 = 24 1/3
Getting anything over 24 1/3% on the remaining work will let you pass the course.
