It all depends on the dose. (you could kill yourself with table salt if you swallowed enough)
Strontium is similar to calcium (look for its place on the periodic table) so the organism may incorporate it as it does calcium, but once it is inside,Sr does not act EXACTLY the same (because it is NOT calcium) and causes trouble.
