.06 x 20,000 + .02 x 55,000 = $2,I hope that helps!......
As an art reseller, John is paid on the basis of sales made in the following manner
6% of the first $20 000
2% of the next $80 000
0.8% on the remainder

Find john's earnings to the nearest dollar on the following sale:
$75000

______________________________________…
what I did so far
6% x 20 000 = $1200
0.8% x 55000 = $440
$1200 + $440 = $1640
but the answer is not correct

-
6% x 20,000 = $1,200
2% x 55,000 = $1,100

$1,200 + $1,100 = $2,300 commission

(The .08% doesn't start until a sales is over $100,000)

Hi,

As an art reseller, John is paid on the basis of sales made in the following manner
6% of the first $20 000
2% of the next $80 000
0.8% on the remainder

Find John's earnings to the nearest dollar on the following sale:
$75000

.06 x 20,000 + .02 x 55,000 = $2,300 <==ANSWER

I hope that helps!! :-)

-
6% of 20,000 = $1,200
2% of the remaining $55,000 = $1,100
The total is $2,300

There wasn't enough earned to get to the 3rd level of .8%

-
0.06*20000 + 0.02*(75000-20000) = 0.06*20000 + 0.02*55000 = 1200 + 1100 = $2300

-
you need to multiply 55000 by 2% instead of .8%
