Finding parallel line equation

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-12-07] [Hit: ]
Since the point given is (0, -13), -13 is the y-intercept (because x is 0).So,......
Can someone please help how to find with steps ?

Find equation of line passing through (0, -13) parallel to y = (1/3)x - 4

Thanks in advance

The equation of the line is in slope-intercept form, which is:

y = mx + b

where:
m = slope
b = y-intercept

Parallel lines have the same slope, so we know the slope of the new line will be same as the original, which is 1/3.

The y-intercept is the y value when x=0. Since the point given is (0, -13), -13 is the y-intercept (because x is 0).

So, your parallel line is:

y = (1/3)x - 13
