It's really easy if you look a timeline.
From the years zero to now, it's been 2011 years. So all you do is subtract 2011-10,000, & you get (negative) -7989. If the number is negative then you know it was before year 0, so you have to add the BC (or BCE depending what they're teaching you) at the end.
