Help on a math problem please

You would be correct, but the question calls for it to be in slope intercept form,......
Explain how you got your answer please.

1) Find the equation of the line in slope-intercept form that is parallel to the line 2x+y= -5 and contains the point (3, -1)

Thanks everyone.

I got 2x+y=5 but i'm not sure if that is correct.

rearrange your original equation to give it in the format y = mx + b
2x+y= -5
y = -2x -5

If the line is parallel the slope must be the same, so -2x remains the same

y = -2x + b
you know that y = -1 and x = 3

-1 = -2*3 + b
-1 = -6 + b
-1 + 6 = b
5 = b

y = -2x +5
2x + y = 5

You would be correct, but the question calls for it to be in slope intercept form, so the answer must be in the form y = mx + b

So the answer is y = -2x + 5
