A)–8x + 7y = –61
B)–8x – 7y = –61
C)–8x + 7y = 61
D) 8x + 7y = –61



Find the slope of the line. x = a ----------(4 points)

The best way to find the slope of a line is to convert it into slope-intercept form. (y=mx+c) where, m is the slope.
Now,, in the second question..
x=a
converting it into y = mx + c.
x + 0.y =a
or 0.y = -x + a
y = -1/0x + a. (so, m = -1/0 which is undefined)

In the first question,,
both A and C have the slope 8/7. But there is an additional condition. The line must pass through (5,-3). So substituting in equation A and C. Only A satisfies the equation.
