Hi again. Thanks for the help on my fractions question earlier, i didnt know how to reply sorry. Here is my next question if you could please answer and show me how you found the answer it would be appreciated. Find the value of x which satisfies the simultaneous equations
2x + y = 9 and
3x - 2y = -4
thanks :)
2x + y = 9 and
3x - 2y = -4
thanks :)
-
2x + y = 9...............multiply each term by 2
3x - 2y = - 4
4x + 2y = 18
3x -2y = -4
**************ADD
7x = 14 ........................divide both sides by 7
x = 2
3x - 2y = - 4
4x + 2y = 18
3x -2y = -4
**************ADD
7x = 14 ........................divide both sides by 7
x = 2
-
2x + y = 9 (first equation)
3x - 2y = -4 (second equation)
multiply first equation by 2
4x + 2y = 18
now solve by adding new first equation and second one
3x-2y = -4
4x+2y = 18
7x = 14
x =14/7
x = 2
and y we can find by putting value of x in first equation
2*2 + y =9
y = 9-4
y = 5
3x - 2y = -4 (second equation)
multiply first equation by 2
4x + 2y = 18
now solve by adding new first equation and second one
3x-2y = -4
4x+2y = 18
7x = 14
x =14/7
x = 2
and y we can find by putting value of x in first equation
2*2 + y =9
y = 9-4
y = 5
-
1) 2x + y = 9
2) 3x - 2y = -4
multiply eq(1) by 2, add to eq(2):
4x + 2y = 18
3x - 2y = -4
____________
7x = 14
x = 14/7 = 2
using eq(1):
2(2) + y = 9
y = 5
check using eq(2):
3(2) - 2(5) = -4
6 - 10 = -4
-4 = -4
The value of x is 2.
- .--
2) 3x - 2y = -4
multiply eq(1) by 2, add to eq(2):
4x + 2y = 18
3x - 2y = -4
____________
7x = 14
x = 14/7 = 2
using eq(1):
2(2) + y = 9
y = 5
check using eq(2):
3(2) - 2(5) = -4
6 - 10 = -4
-4 = -4
The value of x is 2.

2x+y=9(1st variable)
3x-2y=-4(2nd variable)
Multiply 1st variable by 2.
4x+2y=18
Subtract the 1st by the 2nd.
7x=-14
x=-2
Substitute x=-2 to the 2nd variable
-6-2y=-4
-2y=2
y=-1
Therefore,x=-2,y=-1
3x-2y=-4(2nd variable)
Multiply 1st variable by 2.
4x+2y=18
Subtract the 1st by the 2nd.
7x=-14
x=-2
Substitute x=-2 to the 2nd variable
-6-2y=-4
-2y=2
y=-1
Therefore,x=-2,y=-1

2x+y=9-------(1)
3x-2y=-4---------(2)
from (1),
y=9-2x
sub y=9-2x into (2)
3x-2(9-2x)=-4
3x-18+4x=-4
3x+4x=-4+18
7x=14
x=2 #
sub x=2 into y=9-2x
y=9-2(2)
y=9-4
y=5# solved
hopes it helps^^

2x + y = 9
3x - 2y = - 4
4x + 2y = 18
3x -2y = -4
7x = 14 Hence x = 2
2 x 2 + y =9
y= 9 - 4 = 5
3x - 2y = - 4
4x + 2y = 18
3x -2y = -4
7x = 14 Hence x = 2
2 x 2 + y =9
y= 9 - 4 = 5
