What is the symbol | mean and what do the symbol | represent ? If I can get that understanding than I can start to work the problem out. Please help thx.

| | means absolute value
which means what ever you do inside the bracket, when you open the absolute bracket the sign of your ans is going to be positive..
| 3-4-5 | = | -6 | = 6
-2 |3-4-5| = -2 * 6 = -12
which means what ever you do inside the bracket, when you open the absolute bracket the sign of your ans is going to be positive..
| 3-4-5 | = | -6 | = 6
-2 |3-4-5| = -2 * 6 = -12

-12
The answer can't possibly be 12 because of those | thingies. They are called "stiles" and they are used to surround things where you want the magnitude or absolute value. When a number comes out from inside the stiles it is always positive. Other than that, you treat the stile like a parenthesis. The terms inside are combined in so far as possible, then the magnitude of that thing is taken, then the thing outside is multiplied if it is adjacent, just like you do with parens. So since the number coming from inside the stiles must be positive, the -2 is multiplied against it and you get -12.
|-2| = 2
|x+5| = 3 becomes two equations when you solve it:
x+5 = 3 and -(x+5) = 3. You have two solutions to an equation with an absolute value sign.x=-8 or x=-2

| | = means the absolute value. It just means that you perform the operation normally but you ignore the sign, it's always going to be positive.
So, - 2 | 3 - 4 - 5 | = - 2 | - 6 | = (- 2) x 6 = -12
I think this can help you.
So, - 2 | 3 - 4 - 5 | = - 2 | - 6 | = (- 2) x 6 = -12

So,
-2 x | 3 - 4 -5 | = -2 x | -6 | = -2 x 6 = -12
:)
So,
-2 x | 3 - 4 -5 | = -2 x | -6 | = -2 x 6 = -12

The answer is -12. The | symbol means absolute value, or a numbers distance from 0
-
It means u invert the negatives and positives
-
|x| just means (size of) x.
So basically if x = -5, |x| = 5. If x = 2, |x| = 2.
I hope that makes sense.
So basically if x = -5, |x| = 5. If x = 2, |x| = 2.
I hope that makes sense.

matrix?
If it is, it should work like normal Brackets. answer should be 12
