Can someone help me solve this math problem, please. I don't understand this problem...

-12,500/78=160.so you can invite 160 people with 125000-(160*78)=20$-so in order to find out how many guests you can invite you need to divide the amount of money you have ($12,500) by the amount of money that it costs per person ($78). When you divide it it equals 160.26.......
If you budget $12,500 for the reception and the caterer charges $78 per person, how many guests can you invite? How much of your budget is left over? I don't get this at all. What number do I do in order to get the left over problem answer. 10 points, thank you.

12,500/78=160.2564103
you can't have part of a person

so you can invite 160 people with 125000-(160*78)=20$

so in order to find out how many guests you can invite you need to divide the amount of money you have ($12,500) by the amount of money that it costs per person ($78). When you divide it it equals 160.26. Obviously you cant hav .26 of a person so you round down, so you can ivite 160 people. Then you have to find out how much money you spent to invite the people by doing 160x$78 which equals $12480. Then to find out how much money you have left over you have to subtract the amount of money you started with ($12,500) by the amount of money you spent ($12480) which comes out to a total of $20. So you have $20 left over.

division is the reverse of multiplication.

12,500 / 78 = NN as in "whole" people you can invite, and the .xx is the fractional person you cannot invite because he does not exist. the .xx times the $78 is how much is left over of your $12,500 that you can use to tip the caterer.

or, if you divide longhand, you will get how many people, and a remainder which is the left over $

You have $12,500, so you divide that by $78 and that will give you the amount of people you can invite. If it is less than $12,500 then you have money left over, if it is over $12,500 then you have spent too much. If it is less than $12,500, subtract that number (unknown) from $12,500 and that is the money left over.

Your welcome :)

Copy and Paste the following figures into Google: 160 x $78
Then, hit Enter

160 guests x $78 = $12,480 (rounded to next highest 100 is $12,500) Difference of $20
140 guests x $78 = $10,920

160 guests - 20 guests = 140 guests

20 guests x $78 = $1560 - (If you desire a $1500+ reserve, SUBTRACT 20 guests.)
10 guests x $78 = $780 - (If you desire a $700+ reserve, SUBTRACT 10 guests.)

>>> THE CORRECT ANSWER IS: 160 Guests with $20 reserve <<<

"I hope the wedding & marriage are both trouble-free...Best wishes to you"

You need to divide 12,500 by 78. That will be your answer. The remainder is the amount of money left over.
