Just set them equal then solve the resulting equation:
x² + 2x + 1 = 3x + 3
x² - x - 2 = 0
(x + 1)(x - 2) = 0
x + 1 = 0 OR x - 2 = 0
x = -1 OR x = 2
x² + 2x + 1 = 3x + 3
x² - x - 2 = 0
(x + 1)(x - 2) = 0
x + 1 = 0 OR x - 2 = 0
