I'm just talking about the united states only. Ever sense i learned cali is west. New york is east why the hell is ohio mid west.? why not states such as colorado or kansas, why arent the considered mid west.

The name is historic. It goes back to when the United States was smaller. Another example would be: why is Northwestern University in Chicago, not in the state of Washington? (Because when it was founded, the Great Lakes Area was the northwest of the United States -- what is now he northwest came much later.)

Basically the census bureau has designated the states that are in this region, but as early settlers explored territories west of the Mississippi , the central area became known as the Mid West.
