I'm planning on making a battery operated light bulb, but i'm not sure what type of wire to use to connect the bulb to the battery and I was wondering if using copper wire would be dangerous?
Is it flammable?
Would it electrocute me?
thx

Copper wire would be the most efficient wire to use, as it has a low resistivity, meaning, that mininal electrical energy is lost as heat when the electricity is passing through the conductor. As for electrocution, you can get electrocuted from any conductor of electricity as it does not depend on the metal used. It moreso depends on the size of the current, the amps, which is delivered by the battery. Anothing greater than 10mA (milliamps) can pose a threat to you. However, most copper wire available have a lining of electrical insulation over it such as fabric or a polymer, which prevents electrocution from occuring. As copper wire has low resistivity, not much energy will be transformed to heat, so theres less chances of a fire occuring, even less if there is an insulating lining.

Copper wire is a good conductor of electricity, which is what you want when making electrical connections. I don't know what kind of battery could ignite copper wire, but I doubt that you have one, so don't worry about that. You won't get electrocuted unless you have a VERY powerful battery and you make a circuit by touching it. But if you're not sure what you're doing, you should talk to someone who does know, as electricity can be dangerous. Or maybe just buy a flashlight.
